Week

"Why do I feel like this?"

Oh, man what can I say? Lately is being rough.... Sometimes all these responsibilities I have I also call blessings, but at times I get this feeling that maybe I can't do it all. I get overwhelmed, and frustrated, and I want to give up. Last summer I got promoted at my job to a class facilitator for the new servers. I'll be forever thankful for the career opportunity given that I have only been at my job for 1 year and some months. However, between college, working, and other stuff I want to do, I came to the conclusion that I need the day to have 60 hours because It's like I never have time. So here it is, the different moods I went through the week due to a busy schedule and no time for myself. All these pictures are selfies I sent to my best friend because I'm always telling her how I feel and complaining about life. For me, my mental health is very important, and it makes me mad the fact that I'm not able to control my emotions after I be holding on to them for too long, and it's like I explode, with everything at once.

"Ways of Seeing" John Berger

Quote 1:    "I'm an eye. A mechanical eye. I, the machine, show you a world the way only I can see it." (p. 17)

I really identified with this quote, it encourages contemplation on the role of technology, perception, and interpretation in our modern world and invites us to think about the relationship between humans and machines. Nowadays, we are all so attached to our phones, but not to the object specifically. We are attached to the stuff behind the screen, to the fact that we are being observed and we love to pretend to be someone we are not.

Quote 2:  "We never look just at one thing; we are always looking at the relation between things and ourselves."

We love to compare ourselves to an external world. In essence, we don't view the world in isolation; we interpret it in the context of our own experiences, beliefs, and the relationships between different elements. In summary, the statement underscores the notion that our perception is intricately tied to the relationships and connections we establish between things and ourselves, emphasizing the contextual and subjective nature of our understanding of the world.

Performance Art: Introduction

Quote 1: "Fluxus artists, poets, and musicians likewise challenged viewers by presenting the most mundane events—brushing teeth, making a salad, exiting the theater—as forms of art. "

It's pretty innovative how artists decided to show the human part, just to show the audience they are just like regular human beings, and they carry a normal life. I feel like viewers engage more with stuff they can relate to.

Quote 2:   "For feminist artists in particular, using their bodies in live performance proved effective in challenging historical representations of women, made mostly by male artists for male patrons.  In keeping with past tradition, artists such as Carolee Schneemann, Hannah Wilke, and Valie Export displayed their nude bodies for the viewer’s gaze; but they resisted the idealized notion of women as passive objects of beauty and desire. "

It highlights an important aspect of feminist art and its role in challenging traditional representations of women in art history. Using their bodies in live performances, artists like Carolee Schneemann, Hannah Wilke, and Valie Export sought to subvert the historical portrayal of women as passive objects of beauty and desire created primarily by male artists for a male audience. By displaying their nude bodies, they reclaimed the narrative and presented a more authentic and complex portrayal of women, breaking free from the idealized and passive representations that have dominated art history for so long. I hope we are giving recognition to the significant contributions of feminist artists in reshaping art and culture by addressing issues related to gender, identity, and representation.

"Widewalls/ Yoko Ono - A Groundbreaking Artist, Artist, Activist and Fighter"

Quote 1: "Throughout the Beatles’ break up and fall out between the members, Yoko Ono and John Lennon pursued their anti-war goals and dedicated their lives to the cause and released the, now legendary, single Imagine."

It's really beautiful how these artists used their influence to defend their ideals and massive issues in society at that time. I believe when this song came out, it impacted people's lives and made the population aware of the situation.

Quote 2: Her latest causes include campaigning for gun control and against fracking, her vision remains somewhat utopian, and she still pursues the ideals that led her in the past. Ono truly believes that despite the rising terroristic activities, we are finally on our way to world peace, and she predicted that we would have heaven on Earth in 2050.

It's really relevant to this day, what Yoko was standing for. Advocates of peace and progress should be commended for their efforts to make the world a better place, but it's essential to recognize the practical challenges and complexities involved in achieving such utopian goals. Achieving lasting world peace and a perfect society is a shared aspiration for humanity, but it requires the collective efforts of individuals, governments, and organizations working together over time to address the many interconnected issues facing our world.
