Self Portrait Collage

Gain Your Power From Your Traumatic Experiences

My project is inspired by Frida Kahlo, Wangechi Mutu, and Mickalene Thomas. The colors are inspired by Frida Kahlo because, in a lot of her paintings, you can see the colors red, yellow, and blue a lot, I think that she had her reason behind those bright colors. The soil and the grass are inspired by Wangechi Mutu because they remind me of my home country as we know Mutu is from Kenya and talk about the roots of her country and ancestor. The young adult with the afro is inspired by Mickalene Thomas, she's a black young woman who just gained her power. The process of making that project was hard because I kept changing my mind until that idea came to mind. I included the sky in my project because the color symbolizes, freedom, inspiration, and faith.

Quote 1: “People have an insatiable curiosity with her, and this presentation is a rare opportunity to see how she built her identity.” “People have described her as broken and fragile, but she was strong and accomplished a tremendous amount in her lifetime.” Cut with the Kitchen Knife is a photomontage, made by cutting photographs from mass media publications and pasting them onto a support to create new juxtapositions and new meanings."

Quote 1: “People have an insatiable curiosity with her, and this presentation is a rare opportunity to see how she built her identity.” She has a unique story to tell and her success has been hard-earned. She has become an inspiration to many and her story is an example of how people can take control of their own destiny and create their own identity. She has become a role model for many people who see her as someone who was able to use her unique talents to build a successful career.

Quote 2: “People have described her as broken and fragile, but she was strong and accomplished a tremendous amount in her lifetime.” Despite her struggles, she persevered and continued to work hard, achieving great things in her career and life. She proved that strength and resilience can come from within and that she can be broken down and still achieve great things.

Quote 1: "Cut with the Kitchen Knife is a photomontage, made by cutting photographs from mass media publications and pasting them onto a support to create new juxtapositions and new meanings." The photomontage technique allows the artist to manipulate and distort images to create something new and unique. The artist can create new meanings by changing the context of the original images or by changing the relationships between images. This technique is often used to create political messages or to express the artist's opinions on current events.
