Bles'Son Daniel-"Instagram"
This is my self Portrait titled, "Instagram" and I chose the name due to where I created the self portrait from. I chose to create it there to make a personal and familiar vibe to it as everyone has most likely used or seen Instagram or another social media platform at least once in their lifetime. This portrait is also an amalgamation of selfies and items that I associate with stemming from the Superman logo all the way to Sonic being towards the top of the image. I always like portraits like this on my stories from time to time so making this on Instagram was a way for me to showcase that as I like to make these type of collages from time to time just for fun.
Khan Academy:
"With the boom in mass media publications, photography provided a seemingly endless array of images of well-known personalities and politicians to recombine and reconfigure for their biting critiques of Weimar culture."
"Dada—its calls for revolution, its celebration of technology, popular culture, and the New Women—dominates the composition.
NY Times
" They were also another vehicle for her to express her passion for Mexican crafts including contemporary silver jewelry and native materials like jade, favored by the ancient Maya"
For this week's assignment, I loved reading about Frida Kahlo and the insightful information given on her art and intent behind her work. As for the first two quotes pulled from Khan Academy, I I enjoyed the idea that her artwork was used to express her distain for societal standards. Couped with this I liked the idea that she also wanted to send a message to the higherups and oppose ideals that were seen as right but really weren't. It reminds me of when I was younger where I would always try to stand out from my class and do what I felt was good due to me not wanting to conform to what everyone saw as cool at the time. I would be one of the only ones who would watch anime or and read comics when I was smaller and get bullied for it but I continued to read and watch those medias because it was something I enjoyed. I can get behind Frida and her idea of revolution, revolting against the norm and expressing yourself how you see fit.
The next quote was pulled from the New York times and I like the concept of familiarity or home within her artwork. Whenever I scroll on Instagram or speak with from who came from different countries, I like to hear about their culture and learn something new just by listening to them or viewing culture through posts. I treasure things like that so can appreciate the fact that Kahlo and her passion for her culture and bring a form of awe to her Mexican culture.
