Weekly Selfie #7

 Dealing with school work
Trying to be positive
Stress

This is a performance art series based of images. This is series is about me and how I deal with family needs, the second pictures is about me being positive and trying to take care of myself, and the third picture is about me feeling that I am growing up and there is lots of responsibilities that is growing up with me as well.

Berger, Ways of Seeing Chapter 1

“The way we see things is affected by what we know or what we believe”
I really liked this quote which at the beginning of the chapter highlights the impact of our perceptions, whether influenced by personal experiences or other’s opinions, on our beliefs. Sometimes, our beliefs are influenced by someone else's beliefs and that affects the way we see things.

“Images were first made to conjure up the appearances of something that was absent”
As an immigrant, I often rely on memories of my family living in a different country when I can't communicate or reach out to them, remembering those days and the memories we shared.

Khan Academy Performance Art An Introduction webpages

“For feminist artists in particular, using their body in live performance proved effective in challenging historical representations of women, made mostly by male artists for male patrons”
I really like this reading because it has lots of interesting information and while reading this article, it reminds me of Cindy sherman. She uses her face and body in her artwork.

“Shifting attention from the art object to the artist’s action further suggested that art existed in real space and real time”
I really like this quote because art is a very big word. Art helps us understand the world around us. For example, when we post a picture of ourselves on social media to other people it is just a picture but to yourself, there is a meaning, memory, place, and time that made you post this. Another example is when looking in the art galleries or other places where there are artworks hanging, sometimes by the title you can predict the meaning.

Widewalls | Yoko Ono - A Groundbreaking Artist, Activist and Fighter

“Even though she was frequently criticized and even ostracized by the press and the public, she fought her way through all the hardships with her creativity and challenging artwork”
I really like this quote because I can relate to it and I believe most of us. But these things don't affect us/make us give up easily, but it makes us fight our way to go to whatever we want and even better. Sometimes, criticizing makes us do twice as well as we thought/ leading to even better results.

“As she explained, art represents a way of showing people how you can think, and even though some people think of it as a beautiful wallpaper that you can sell, Yoko Ono rather perceives it as a direct connection with activism”
I really like this sentence because we should appreciate art and how powerful it is when expressing ideas. It is also very important that every country has its own museum for people around the world to come and visit those artwork that could represent their country such as history, etc.

Hispanic Executive | Interview with Shaun Leonardo - Performance, Pedagogy, and Philosophy

"Artists need to take in, to process, to decipher, to separate from the noise and create things that are beautiful and impactful to the spirit"
This sentence is my favorite because I found it so true. Sometimes you need to distance yourself from all the negativity to come back with shocking results, to come back stronger, to come back better, and to come back educated.

“And so art wasn’t really within my vision as a child: I never quite know what inspired me, other than the moments where I did see and take in art”
I really like this quote, I look at myself and remember those days when I was a child where I didn’t know what I would do when I grow up. But what was funny about me when I was young is that I used to take my friend’s loose tooth out and when I grew up I ended up going to biology major but hated thinking of becoming a dentist. As we get old, things change which you could become something that you never think you would’ve fit into.
