Mirzoeff, How to See the World, Chapter 5
"For most people, seeing the world still means first and foremost seeing our own city. Taken together, today's global cities make a world of their own."
I really like this quote because it tells us how we see our city based on our local surroundings and how we interact with our city. In addition to different people with different cultures and perspectives.
“These are the places from which we have to see the world today and where we learn how to see
I really like this quote because locations give important viewpoints and insights that affect our understanding and view of the world around us and impact our ability to understand and observe it. For example, the museum where you can learn about your cultures and history
John Berger, Ch 7
"The publicity image steals her love of herself as she is, and offers it back to her for the price of the product."
I really like this quote because lots of us use beauty products to make ourselves look attractive, however, I feel those products just want to steal your beauty by making you keep using it and not trusting yourself. Self love is very important because if you love yourself people will also love the way you are.
“Publicity is about social relations, not objects. Its promise is not of pleasure, but of happiness: happiness as judged from the outside by others. The happiness of being envied is glamour”.
This is one of my favorites I've read in this chapter. Publicity is basically about social relations and social perceptions, not just promoting objects. It's about projecting happiness and a concept called glamour which other people will envy or wish to have.
