                                           Photo Series: Metamorphosis -Bless

This series is a performance art series comprises of six photos each made in a way where it can convey a story. The series is about growing past stigmas and becoming your own being , a butterfly in a way. I like to think that the images is a slow showcase of me coming out of my cocoon and being free to be who I want to be in this world.

Berger quotes:

"When in love, the sight of the beloved has a completeness which no words and no embrace can match''

"Soon after we can see, we are aware that we can also be seen. The eye of the other combines with our own eye to make it fully credible that we are part of the visible world."

Khan Academy:

"Ono and Lennon made ordinary human activity a public spectacle, which demanded personal interaction and raised popular awareness of their pacifist beliefs."

"Through their words and actions, they confronted their audiences and raised issues about the relationship of female experience to cultural beliefs and institutions, physical appearance, and bodily functions including menstruation and childbearing. "

Yoko Ono article:

"Yoko Ono has been, without a doubt, one of the most misunderstood artists in the past 60 years."

"As she explained, art represents a way of showing people how you can think, and even though some people think of it as a beautiful wallpaper that you can sell, Yoko Ono rather perceives it as a direct connection with activism."

Performance, Pedagogy, and Philosophy article:

"And so art wasn’t really within my vision as a child: I never quite know what inspired me, other than the moments where I did see and take in art."

"I have witnessed young people be easily derailed when they don’t see themselves in the representation of who is creating."

Berger Quote response

The first chapter of Berger was an intriguing read in my opinion. Out of the whole chapter I chose these two quotes shown above because it connects with a particular philosophy I live by. for the first quote, I do believe that true love changes the way you view someone. Sometimes people misinterpret love with the idea of lust , therefore many believe that love does not exist when in reality it does. I liked how Berger worded this sentence, showing that when true love is showcased, it goes beyond the  physical and overcome all flaws

To add on,  the second is very true as most of us living in the world only look at it through a one dimensional lenses. We as people now with the emergence of social of media , everyone has an urge to be seen but forget the reality of which people actually view others. People project a false image and give others what they want to see but when the world slows down and the opportunity to show off goes away, the realization of one self sets in and many who are in our personal lives or who has the blessings of encountering our true self .

Khan Academy response

For the Khan Academy Reading , I loved the idea of Ono and Lennon creating their art piece as an interactive experience. In todays modern age, many people only take picture for their own pleasure and validation instead of delving into the art aspect of photography. I can always sit down and appreciate when the artist puts effort into their art piece. People do indeed put effort into making the picture perfect image but its all for the wrong reasons. A message can always be appreciated and the underdog and savior is always bring unto the forefront and exalted for their contribution for making the unheard voices heard. From the reading, I like how the images are used as a portal to showcase a light to real world problems and doubles as a critique to what is wrong in the world.

For the second quote, I have the same standpoint as in the first paragraph. To add on, I do believe photography as a whole should have purpose be revitalized within the media. I personally get a sense of dread or a bland streak of boringness. I always get a sense that everyone is doing the same thing or people have no sense of identity, wanting to conform to what society deems right or perfect. It sucks the fun out of photography whenever I scroll through Instagram and see the same type of picture taken by hundreds of different people.

Yoko Ono Article response

I one hundred percent connect with the first quote as I struggle to be understood within my own world. I have a belief that everyone has their own world, universe or frequency that other people can pick up on and connect to. In this day in age I believe hat everyone is misunderstood to be honest. Not too many people project their true selves so no one can truly cater to what a person truly needs.

As for the second quote, I love the idea of wanting to express one self and the concept of how people work spiritually and mentally. Through some of my photos, I try on occasion to convey messages or at least sparks of ideas that can inspire others to venture out and  take pictures in new ways. I also like the concept of having a personal connection with your artwork and taking pride the process and creation of your art piece. I think that what really sets Ono as one of the best performance artist of the modern era.

PPP article response

In all honesty, where I am at today is not where I thought I would be yesterday. I chose the first quote from this particular article due to the idea of people evolving. Many always try t find their purpose or calling in life and sometimes spend a whole lifetime looking for their light. I believe that sometimes you have to have life take its course and allow your light to find you. To think that Leonardo did not partake in performance art since birth but rather took on this path later in life showcases this point. People are quick to glorify the people who have been good at one thing since birth whether it is being a good musician or a good footballer but they fail to realize that life is a process and that no one can force your light on you. It is something that comes when you feel as though the darkness sets in.

To add on, I really loved the second quote as I had personal experiences with friends and family losing faith in their abilities due to hardship and no representation. Coupled with the fact that I am an African American , the lack of representation is prevalent within my community. Although,  change has occurred where there are mor black leads,  i still endured a childhood where black heroes are sparse and the role models we had such as Martin Luther King was slandered or not shown enough respect for their work.
