Mirzoeff textbook
"...the possibility of seeing an image of one-self was limited to the wealthy and the powerful."
"The mirror reflects the models' that the painted painter is working on."
Websites:
"There are layers of meaning but never heavy-handed didacticism. She attracts us with her exacting skill and beautiful effects, from the marbled ink that often serves as the subjects’ skin to the touches of glitter, shiny paper and baubles she attaches to the surfaces."
" Mutu had hoped for a more interactive experience and a more in-the-round setup, as would be the case at a stoning"
The first quote was chosen as I find it very introspective and awe-inspiring. Before my generation, images was only created by the wealthy and encouraged by the upper class to be created to represent fanatical ideas. Now with the technological advancements, everyone can create portraits or photoshop their own ideas and minds for the world to see. To add-on with the second quote, I like the idea of the painter trying to mirror the world through his art whether it'd be in a literal sense or a metaphorical sense. In life, everything and everyone can be or is already a mirror of how you perceive the world. We may not realize it , but what we believe is what we showcase and project upon the world, hence why we have people who can connect easily with us than others.
With the next two quotes that are from the website, they was chosen due to me liking the insight it gives for our common world. Just like her art, everyone is multi-layered and complex which I like the concept of. And like with her art, being made to be interactive, everyone is an experience in a way. I may be looking too deep into it but yet I like that idea of art reflecting or mirroring one's life , not only being interactive but yet being a multi-layered mirror that many can connect too by a glance or by a quick touch.
